The Laughable English premiere at Leeds International Film Festival

The English premiere of The Laughable will be at Leeds International Film Festival. This Leeds-set experimental documentary by Sarah Browne explores what is laughed at and who gets to laugh.
Six disabled comedians perform on a bare sound stage, confronting taboo subjects from transphobia to religion. With no laugh track or live audience, the onus falls on cinema-goers to decide what is laughable. Commissioned by the research project Imagining Technologies for Disability Futures, a LIFF partner in 2022, The Laughable radically reconsiders the ethics of laughter.
The screening on Thu 13 Nov will have a Q&A with director Sarah Browne, host Stuart Murray, and performers Sam Judd, Hollie Noble, Sherman Rabbit, Zee Younus, Jamie Preece, and Emma Sullivan. BSL for the intro and Q&A will be provided by Vicci Ackroyd (BSL/English Interpreter).
"Browne’s mission statement on laughter was charmingly realised and permeated the entire piece with a haunting, hilarious reverence." — Neil Cadieux, Film Ireland
Cinematography by Cathy Dunne. Composition and sound design by David Donohoe.
